Welcome to the NYSTRA website!
Thank you so much for the opportunity to serve as NYSTRA President. I look forward
to an exciting year. I know it will be a year of opportunity and growth for all
of us and our profession. As NYSTRA President I plan to work with the board to
continue to move NYSTRA forward, to continue the work Justin Merkey had begun
and to meet the challenges of the coming year.
Our board and membership are presently working on several exciting projects for
the year:
• Our 2007 conference, “The Power of TR”, will be held March
24-27, 2007 in Saratoga Springs. Judy Isaksen and Vanessa Von Seggern, Conference
Chairs and Susan Wilson, Program Chair, have begun work on planning an exciting
conference. Last year's conference was an outstanding success and with your help
and support, 2007 will be also.
• Russ Pikell is working with the Downstate committee in planning TR sessions
for the Downstate Conference, to be held November 15, 2006 in Westchester.
• Noelle Molloy, our Webmaster is in the process of updating our website.
We look forward to a “new look” and many new features that will help
us to serve you better.
• NYSTRA members have received and new members will continue to receive
the NYSTRA PowerPoint thanks to Loretta Sinnott, Public Relations Chair.
• The State Options Committee is making progress in their work with the
NYS DOH and state legislature in upgrading the qualifications for Directors of
TR in long-term care in our state. Much thanks to Karen Nash, Robin Kunstler,
Fred Greenblatt, Ron Becker and Fran Daly for their continued work on behalf
of all of us.
These are just some of the projects NYSTRA is working on. Thank you to everyone
who has contributed to NYSTRA. We will continue to offer workshops, networking
opportunities, inform you of issues relevant to our profession and will continue
to work with our national organizations on issues of importance to our profession.
We welcome all of you and I urge all of you to become involved. If you are not
a member, please consider joining. If you are a member, be an active member.
Don't take NYSTRA for granted. So many of us rely on the NYSTRA website for job
postings, for TR news and for TR resources. We need your help to continue. It
is up to us to move our profession forward. We welcome your comments and input
and look forward to hearing from all of you!
Sincerely,
Isabel Kellerman, CTRS
NYSTRA President
