To anyone in NYSTRA: What interventions are used with profoundly mentally
retarded individuals? I'm supposed to be aware of the individual's goals set
up for them by other staff but that only helps so much. If anyone has any ideas

Hi All, I was just on the ATRA web site and saw that they will be selling
wrist bands. The popular rubber wristbands will be sold in Burgundy. These wrist
bands will be used to help raise the awareness of the Recreational Theapy Medicare
Project. It got me thinking, what a great gift to purchase for all our consumers

golf techniques at a "First Swing/Learn to Golf" seminar on Thursday, May 19

Just wanted to add my feelings on the passing of Kim Kiernan. Kim was so vital,
young, strong and full of life. She was so helpful to me when I came onto the
NYSTRA Board, traveling from her house to mine to help me with the membership
list and then the resource file.While battling her own illness, Kim took the
time to give me support when my father passed away. Kim believed in NYSTRA and
helped it to become the strong organization it is today. I will miss her very

A. Kiernan of West Nyack passed away at home surrounded by her loving family
on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005. She lived in Rockland for the past 28 years. She was
born in Flushing, NY on April 19, 1976 to Kenneth and Ellen (Smith) Kiernan.
Kimberly graduated from Clarkstown South High School in 1993 and received her
degree as a Recreational Therapist from St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill,
NY in 1997. She was the 1st student liaison for New York State Therapeutic Recreation
Association and was their present Treasurer. Kimberly worked for the National
Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification in New City, NY, Columbia Presbyterian
Hospital, NYC, HELP PSI, Bronx, NY, Jewish Home and Hospital, Bronx, NY, Christian
Health Care Center, Wyckoff, NJ, Kessler Care Center, West Orange, NJ and Dede's
Card Store, Nanuet, NY. She was an avid Sky Diver and loved to help other people
and be with her family. Kimberly is survived by her loving parents, Kenneth and
Ellen, sister, Doris A. Quigley and her husband James, brother, Paul B. Kiernan,
sister Erin M. Kiernan and her niece and Godchild, Samantha. She is also survived
by many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and will be greatly missed by her dog,
Gizmo. Friends may call Wednesday Jan. 12, 2005 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at
