The American Hortiuclural Therapy Association (AHTA)is pleased to announce
that the New York Botanical Garden's Horticultural Therapy Certificate program
has become fully accredited. NYBG is now one of only five accredited Horticultural
Therapy certificate programs in North America! The others are limited to: 1.
HT Institute Institute in Denver Colorado 2. The Legacy Certificate Program in
Portland Oregon 3. The Providence Program in British Columbia 4. The HT Certificate
program at the University at Minnesota Arboretum Finally, New York is in the
mix. The NYBG HT certificate counts towards 1.5 points toward registration as
a horticultural therapist. Four points are needed in total including points for
various degrees, amount of paid or voluntary experience, publications, presentations
and research. The Accreditation of the NYBG HT program has been my goal since
becoming the HT Coordinator 2 years ago. It could not have been accomplished
without the strong support and dedication of the NYBG Administration, Staff,
Instructors and Students. Congratulations to all for a job well done. Please
contact me at 718-817-8747 for more information. By the way, my next goal for
the NYBG is to build an on-site, demonstration & enabling garden. Stay tuned
for details. Charles

skills and movements to extricate themselves from physical abuse without causing

What an amazing group of people that I have crossed paths with. As a student,
I am surprised that there aren't other students invovled in this organization.
In three days I have developed such confidence in myself, and have obtained such
growth and guidance than anyone can imagine. Thank you NYSTRA again for believeing
enough in me to grant me the student scholarship Award. Thank you Matt Gold,
Denise H.,Kim, Steve, Sue D, Isabelle, A special thanks to Maggie for giving
me that extra push, and everybody else for making this a wonderful experience.
I feel like my calling in this organization will be to wake up Rec students near
and far and let them know they are not alone in this field. I'm glad Denise and
Maggie woke me up, and I'm never sleeping on this profession ever again. Danielle

Hi NYSTRA Members, Do you have t-shirts in your file cabinet from a fund raiser
three years ago? Do you have a box of water bottles from a walk-a-thon cluttering
up your office space. Well now you can get rid of those things while helping
NYSTRA. Bring any items you might have with you to the conference in Albany,
April 15-18, 2003, http://nystra.org/. In addition to our traditional 50/50 raffle
and a "basket of cheer" raffle we will give you a chance to win items from agencies
around the state. All donations will be cheerfully accepted. Thanks for you help
with this fund raiser that will benefit professional and student scholarships.
Please email me or drop your items off at the registration table. Thanks, Conference

I am currently a Senior TR Student/Dance Minor at Ithaca College in search
of a Fall 2004 Internship in the NYC area. I have a strong desire to utilize
dance as an intervention for adolescent's dealing with body related issues (youth
at risk). I feel dance and movement have an incredible impact on the individual,
and this is a population that can benefit from such an outlet. I understand that
I may not be able to find such a specific internship, but this is my ideal. And
just as the adolescent population may benefit from dance and movement as a TR
intervention, I feel any population can receive such benefits as well. So I am
just in search of some helpful information that may lead me to an opportunity
where I can utilize both TR and dance. Any ideas??? (I will be at the upcoming
NYSTRA conference and would love to use the opportunity to meet with anyone who
has some info.)
