In July I became Program Coordinator of the Day Treatment Program. For 11 years, I was a Recreation Therapist at the Broome County Mental HealthDay Treatment Program in Binghamton, NY. Though my current position calls for a Masters Degree, being enrolled in Marywood University's MSW program was accepted given my experience. (Since Recreation Therapists do alot more than Recreation Therapy.)I wanted to get interns from SUNY Brockport, but their Chairman told me that I would havebe certified to be able to do this. In addition, my Program Manager feels that being aCertified Recreation Therapist might reduce or eliminate my need (from the corporate prospective)to attain the MSW. WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS FOR CERTIFICATION AND IF A TEST IS NESCESSARY,WHEN AND WHERE ARE THEY GIVEN?

I am a CTRS working for both an acute inpatient Psych and an OUTPATIENT PARTIAL HOSPITAL mental health program. We are exploring if CTRS's can get medicaid reimbursement for doing groups in our Partial Program. Any experience or infor on this would be greatly appreciated. So far we were informed by medicaid it depended on the state's Practice Act, and what they accepted as providers..Anyone know what NY State's Practice Act is? Anyone else out there working in Mental Health Partial Programs...love to hear from you!

I am interested in finding out about possible jobs in the field of recreation therapy, preferrably in New York. I am a native of Newburgh, NY and am looking forward to returning to the area. I do not have much experience in the field, but I feel as though my personality is quite compatible with this typr of position. My main interest lies in working with adolescents, but I am open to anything. I am basically looking to learn more about this field and develop my talents in the area. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to email me. Thank you very much for your consideration.
