Summer 2010

FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK
Joanne Auerbach, M.A., CTRS

The NYSTRA Star Game
I got a brainstorm for a new game today. The details are not all worked out, but the object of the game is to collect as many stars as possible by the end. In the course of the game, players draw a star card, read it aloud, and then if the statement on the card is true for the player, she or he gets a star, sometimes more than one. You can start playing right now!

Read the following cards and start counting your stars.
I am reading the NYSTRA Newsletter. (That was easy! Take a star.)
I attended the annual conference within the last two years. (Get one or two stars.)
I read the President’s Message on the website. (It’s okay—just claim your star when you do.)
I am a fan of the NYSTRA Facebook page. (You have the idea—claim stars as you go.)
I wrote a letter to my NY state assemblyperson and/or senator in support of TR licensure.
I have attended hospitality events at the conference.
I am helping with the high school outreach program.
I renewed my membership promptly.
I have contributed something for publication in the NYSTRA Newsletter.
I have presented at the Downstate Recreation Conference and/or the annual conference within the last three years.
I asked someone (or recommended someone) to run for the Board.
I ran for the Board. (GOLD star)
I nominated a person or a program for a NYSTRA award or scholarship.
I received a NYSTRA award or scholarship.
I posted a complimentary comment on the website Guestbook.
I explored the website and discovered something I didn’t know was there before.
I moderated a session at the annual conference or the Downstate conference.
I helped in any other way at the annual conference.
I have purchased NYSTRA merchandise.
I am serving on a NYSTRA committee (any committee).
I voted in this year’s NYSTRA election.
I have been asked for information, and supplied it in a timely manner.
I convinced someone else to join NYSTRA. (GOLD star)
I promise to thoughtfully complete the membership survey when I receive it.
I have read all the way down to here.
There is only one ?black hole? among the star cards:
I have made complaints without offering to help work toward a solution. (Loose a star and change your ways!)
I hope that you are loaded with stars by now! The best thing is, you can continue to accumulate them in the months to come. Let us together make this a star-studded year!
Please feel free to call me at (914) 597-2248 with concerns and/or your stellar ideas!
